Chris Trottier, writing on Mastadon:

Spoke with a transgender man who was shocked to discover that there’s no cis masculine community of affirmation and joy. No, there isn’t. … Masculine people don’t generally get together to affirm their masculinity or express joy about it. When I’ve seen it, it’s usually because something really traumatic happened.

As a hetero cis man myself, I’m not surprised to read this. It is truly sad. I watch things like “Ted Lasso”, and yearn for some kind of life and society that celebrates it in a good and pure way.

I wish men were not so scared to show their feelings. And seek that affirmation and joy from other men, and not just women. It’s a failing, to be sure.

(Even typing those words, I am cognizant of the backlash by some who might read this as “soft” or “weak”. The problem is real. Chris is right.)
