A consequence of leadership is that you are a role model. This means that things you do not do carry just as much weight as things you do in shaping the culture of your team. If you think a particular behavior or project is not important then your team thinks it isn’t important even if that wasn’t your intent. Actions as simple as what meetings you attend or what parts of presentations/keynotes you stop listening or skip send a message as to their importance whether you intend to or not.

Every leader should realize and accept this responsibility.
