Jayme always admonishes me for yelling out “OFFSIDES!!” at the kids’ soccer games. I asked her if she knew why I did that. I do it because, unlike college and professional games, no one really cares about anything after the fact. If the play is legit offsides and no one says anything, and the other team scores, no one’s going to give a crap about parents yelling about offsides after the score. Thousands of parents yell that all the time. No one pays attention.
So I yell it before the play plays out, to let someone hear that I know it’s offsides before the goal was ever scored.
It’s an important distinction. I’m just sayin’.
