Talking with a buddy of mine this morning, and our sports attendance here in Atlanta is so skewed from normal. At least, in the current era.
Example The Columbus Crew (who won MLS Cup last year) regularly sells out their stadium. At 22K people. That’s their capacity. In Mercedes Benz Stadium, Atlanta United regularly draws 35K+ fans. 22K would be considered a disappointment. And at United’s height of the league, we had a playoff game that was north of 70K fans.
Similarly, the Atlanta Braves (our MLB team) regularly draws 45K+ fans. On a normal regular season game. When the Braves are in playoff contention, that number rises to 53-55K, per game. Those are staggering numbers considering the MLB regular season consists of 81 home games.
Crazy high.
