Caroline interviewed me last week (for one of her classes) about stuttering. One of her questions was “how do you see stuttering portrayed in media?“
And I had to answer that I don’t see that many situations where stuttering is portrayed in any kind of media. And the ones I do see (which I can count on one hand), it’s always for some kind of over-the-top comedic performance. It’s never using the stuttering in a character exploration scenario.
It just got me thinking that not a lot of people understand stuttering because not a lot of people actually stutter. There’s little to no exposure to it, which means people don’t have the opportunity to learn about it.
