Washington owner Josh Harris says Commanders will remain team’s nickname (Ben Standing with The Athletic):

Loud factions of the fan base, particularly those around for the Super Bowl-winning era starting in 1982, have never been shy about the organization dropping “Redskins.” Numerous public protests and newspaper columns decried the nickname as a racist slur. The initial change came in 2020 during a wave of national social reform, leading to the stopgap “Washington Football Team” nickname for two seasons. Following a nearly two-year rebranding process, Washington landed on Commanders ahead of the 2022 season. The name wasn’t a hit.

That’s a shame…I absolutely love the idea of “The Washington Football Team”. It’s so, dare I say, commanding. With a name like that, there are no doubts, no equivocations.
