There are two political movements in America right now
But political movements, especially ones whose members are concerned with “what’s polling well,” are always big tents. Movements don’t require uniformity, just a common bond. And in this case, the common bond is a single thesis statement. It’s ok to throw somebody under the bus.
It’s that statement that gets me. Underlying everything they’re doing, and they’re doing a lot, is we shouldn’t have to feel bad about not giving a shit about anyone else but ourselves.
Your neighbor needs a helping hand with his trash cans? Fuck ‘em.
Your friend need a quick loan to cover his car payment? Fuck ‘em.
You asked to potentially contribute to a charity to help kids with cancer? Fuck ‘em.
And the people we’re talking about cheer this on. As if it’s the way it always should have been. Make America great again, right? I guess these days, that means being a self-centered asshole always out for #1.
How far we’ve fallen.
