Trump deportations questioned by federal judge

The Department of Justice on Monday asked a federal appeals court in Washington, D.C., to replace the district court judge overseeing a case challenging the Trump administration’s deportations of hundreds of alleged Venezuelan gang members to El Salvador under the wartime Alien Enemies Act.

A few thoughts…

  • Apparently, we can simply replace judges we don’t like anymore. Because that’s certainly normal.
  • The Alien Enemies Act is supposed to be for wartime. Are we at war? Did I miss when East Asia declared war on us (again)?
  • “Alleged gang members”…I guess we’ve skipped the whole “innocent until proven guilty”, and even “guilty until proven innocent”, and moved directly to “we think you’re shit, so you have to go”. How very American of us.
