I’m hoping at least some walk away from the aftermath of the Kirk shooting with the following lesson:
The right to free speech and the consequences from said speech are two different things.
Kirk’s free speech rights were not attacked on Wednesday. The very fact that he was allowed to be doing these talks, on college campuses no less, are proof that his free speech rights were being respected, as they always have been.
However, there were consequences (outside of, and unrelated to, his free speech rights) for what he has said in the past. In his case, unfortunately, they were deadly.
