Listening to a 1991 Garth Brooks’ song (What She’s Doijg Now) made me nostalgic about how songs are a time capsule to a bygone era.

Consider these lyrics:
Just for laughs I dialed her old number But no one knew her name Hung up the phone, sat there and wondered If she’d ever done the same
Several things hit me:
- Do people have “old numbers” anymore? I mean, I guess if you have a landline, you might. But that willl die when the (current) older generation is gone.
- Remember CallerID? When it first showed up, there were little breakout boxes you attached to your phone that would have a one-line readout of who was calling. At least whoever the phone company said the number belonged to. That seems like ages ago.
- Phone calls are not the first thing that comes to mind when attempting to communicate. Especially with an ex.
